Origin: Japan
Specialty: Fine writing instruments with a Japanese twist

Platinum was founded in Tokyo in 1919 as a manufacturer of writing instruments. It has taken a distinctly Japanese perspective to an otherwise western instrument, creating maki-e lacquer pens with carving and pearl inlay as early as 1930. While staying close to its Japanese identity, Platinum has also been an important innovator from its founding, as it was the first manufacturer to use refillable cartridges, and continues to be at the forefront of chemical, metallurgical and design process development to achieve product excellence.
